How does a Montessori Preschool works?

This is something I need help with, I am pretty sure most of you have experience with this feeling  and you  can help me.
C's been  going to a Momtessori School since the begining  of this month only for two mornings a week, she does fine, seems happy but I don't feel good about this school for some reason!
Why not?
- There are 32 children in this one classroom with 4 teachers, which is fine e but everytime we drop her off  we see most of kids look  bored!
-We usually stay for 5 minutes before we leave just  trying to read a book to her or being engage with her activities and seems like at least 6-8 other children come to her table to interrupt her or take stuff away from her and the teachers don't see this.
-She's been going there  for a month but it  seems like she had brought home 4 papers with pretty pictures that she drew but that it is all!
-When I ask her about her day at school, and what kind of work she did, she told me couple of times "mommy I was trying to do my puzzle but I needed help, I called the teachers but I don't think they hear me, beacuse they didn't come".
- She had also said that the children in her classroom are too loud.
WELL I don't know what to think, the teachers there are very nice (they really try), but I think they may need to hire more people Or maybe.. . Am I being to picky? Is this a real Montessori school? Can 4 teacher deal with 31 kids on the same room without a peaceful enviroment? Am I getting my money worth it?

I'm a teacher with 10 years of experience on the field, but I am not a Montessori Trained teacher yet, I think I have read every book about the Montessori Method I could found at my local library, I'm passionate about it, I believe on this Method , this is why I am taking a Montessori Teacher Training that will take me over 7 months to get certified and I LOVE IT!! ( I will post about it later).

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE the  right Montessori program for your child?

But just to let you know I am still doing homeschool  with her, I thought just giving her a  two days break away from mommy and home will be nice for improving  her social skills and problem resolving but I think for now she won't be back at this Montessori School. We may try other Montessori schools next year.
Thank you guys!!

                                                 *************************

GRACIAS!!

September Sensory Bin

Caja Sensorial de Septiembre

Our theme for next month is Construction. There is so many construction projects on our town every time we drive by one, C seems interested on them, she asks question about the machines and how they work. I think this will be the perfect  time to present her information to understand how construction develops.

Here is the list of what I put inside this bin:
-  Organic Potting Mix
-Rocks
- Little Construction Machines Toys ( I found  them at the toy store)
-Little Construction Signs (I found them at the thrift store)
-Little Construction people (I got them from  her train table)
-Small wooden beads that daddy made months ago.

Back to School Animal Jars

C and I made these fun animal jars for some friends as a cool incentive to get them excited to start the school year. I wanted to use some of my recycled glass jars (my husband was complaining about having so many ) so I thought this would  be the perfect idea. I got the patterns and the instructions from this site .

We filled the jars with, crayons, markers, pencils, erasers, stickers, glue bars, colors and homemade small notebooks.
C kept one and she was so excited to use her "school treats".

Gracias

Art on the Go!!

Arte en Movimiento!!

I put this Art Box together for C to use in the car, have you ever thought how much time our kids spent in the car? We usually have coloring books with markets, maybe some flashcards, and lots of books to read. But lately C seems like she is not interested on these anymore. I was thinking what can I do to make her time in the car funner instead of boring. I had a flashlight and think on preparing this Art Box to go.

I put some scrapbooking paper to decorate with crayons, markers, stickers, glitter, stamps, glitter pencils, foam stickers, dot a dot art paint, felt stickers, also a pair of scissor to cut and a bar of  glue.
I'm planning to put different stuff every other week, just to keep her interest going. Let see how she does.

It is so easy to open, just need to pull out  the green buttons.Ready to go!
Now the one hundred million question , how is she going to work with this in the car if she doesn't have a table? Well I thought about it, I wanted  to buy  this cool travel tray online but my husband is going to make a similar tray for C  , this way we don't have to spent money on it : )
If someone is interested in knowing where I got the box, I bought at Target.

Gracias

Blueberry Festival

Festival de Moras

Last weekend we went to the blueberry festival in our town, it was so much fun! In this house we love to have blueberries in our diet , at least C and me, daddy not too much, but this was the perfect occasion to show C where the blueberries come from.

They offered a free ride on the ski  lifts chairs to get to the top of the mountain where the blueberrie's trees are. I have to admit I used love getting in these chairs when I was younger and used to ski BUT now I was terrified having my three year old sitting in this chair with me , she kept moving and asked " mommy this is cool, can I jump?" My husband and I were so nervous, It's a funny feeling when you don't have the control of the situation. Next time we will walk to the top!!

Once we got to  stand on ground I was so happy! We started to pick yummy blueberries, C was picking and eating them at the same time..so funny! She eat so many blueberries that day.

These are our blueberries we got to take home!! Believe me we worked for them : )

Our shoes ended looking like this, dirty, wet and muddy and I love it!

Here, C is  drinking a yummy blueberry lemonade at the fair...so good!

Felt Cookies Counting Game

Jugando a Contar  Galletas de Fieltro

I  was checking online to purchase counting games for C , when I found this activity , I thought I could make my own set, I had all the material at home and it will be nice to save some money.
I made 36 cookies in 4 different kinds, every single cookie is made from felt, I took me about 4 hours to finish them. Nothing better than spend some time at the backyard in a sunny day while C was playing in her swing set.

About the dice,  you remember the rhyming dice we made a while ago using homemade blocks that daddy made for C, well here is another use for them, just tape some red dots on it and you can have a dice : )

How we play:
We take turns rolling the dice, get the number of cookies and put them in your basket, whoever have more cookies in her plate win the game. This game was a big hit!

C loved counting her cookies and playing with them. We also try to build a tower using the cookies..so fun.
I have on mind other activities I can prepare using these felt cookies, maybe some sequencing, sorting,adition...etc.

This time, I haven't used a specific pattern for these cookies, I just followed  the same steps that I used to made  the set of felt food  for C last year . I'm pretty sure you guys can find a tutorial online on how to make felt cookies. What can't we find online these days...right?

¿verdad?

 Thank you !

Practical Life Activities in Home

Actividades Diarias en Casa

I get  e-mail  from followers asking about what kind of chores C does at the house besides our "working activities". Here is a short list:

Friday is laundry day! C taker her laundry basket to the laundry room, puts her clothes inside the washer. add some detergent and starts the cycle. When the cycle is over, she puts her clothes in a basket and then puts them inside the drier.
Believe me , THIS is a great help for me!! One thing less to do for me..right? Besides this I think she really enjoys doing her laundry.

She also likes helping to prepare dinner, she doesn't do it every night, sometimes she is too busy playing with her dad or just having her tv time (30 minutes a day), but she helps at least twice a week, she helps cutting, peeling and mixing our vegetables.
For cutting she uses this small knife from our set of J.A. Henckels knifes, it's great for her size , we don't keep it very sharp (safety).

Sunday is cleaning up day! C cleans the tv console, she uses windex and a rug, she takes the stuff out from the console and after she is done cleaning she puts everything back on.

One of C's chores is to clean her bedroom, and she needs to do it, it means picking up her books, pick up  her clothes and put them in her closet and also make her bed.

To get C to help us it has been a long transition(not overnight), If I clean and daddy clean she will clean too..I think Children learn from imitation, she used to put things on her mouth a lot but now she can be trusted not to put windex or other kind of cleaning supplies in her mouth, also working with a knife is not easy for a 3.5 year old but it is practice, if we never give them the chance to practice how will they learn..right?
You can see we don't ask a lot...do we? We reward her with a big thank you and let her choose a family activity  for us to  the next weekend, like the zoo, library, carnaval, fair, park, swiming pool, or a walk.

You can clicl here to see C's bedroom.

I hope this give you some ideas to guide our children to help aroud the house

Emulsion Science Project

Proyecto de Ciencia acerca de Emulsión

We did this cool project few days ago, it was very interesting  to find out the results and the different terms we can use.

You will need:
  • Small soft drink bottle, water , food coloring, 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, dish washing liquid or detergent.

First C pours water into the empty bottle.

Then added lots of food coloring : ? ( but you just need couple of drops).

Then you add some oil, shake the bottle and observe what happens..(Even if oil and water are thoroughly shaken up, or whisked together, they will always separate out).

Finally you can add the detergent

    Finalmente puedes  añadir el detergente

And shake the bottle again. The detergent is attracted to both water and oil helping them all join together and form something called an emulsion. Cool eh!!

Fantastico ah!

Here C is finishing to color her science sheet and I am helping to write her notes.
