Betty Lukens Learning Fun with Felt Review and Giveaway

Betty Lukes Aprendiendo y Divirtiendote con Fabulas de Fieltro SORTEO

************THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED*******

**********ESTE SORTEO ESTA CERRADO************

One of our favorite activities to do at home is story time, what child doesn't like to hear stories or create his own story, right? So today I am going to do a review of Learning with Fun Felt from Betty Lukens.
Few months ago C had the chance to received on the mail three different felt story boards from her choice, (it was such a hard job for her to pick three of them because all of them are so cute)as soon as she opened the box, she started to play with them and couldn't wait anymore! She looked so excited and of course I did too : )
We got the rain forest adventures, friends animal care and the fun on the farm story boards. We really like them! The colors are so real and bright and each set comes with over 20 pieces.

We use them every week for our story telling or just to play with the figurines.I also like the fact that these story boards come in a carrying plastic case which makes it easy to storage the pieces all together and taking them everywhere even to the backyard and share with our friends.

I also can use a board as part of our activities in our shelves.

Butterfly Mask

Mascara de Mariposa

Since we have a new baby at home we are changing our routine a little bit, C still has activities to work on her classroom at home, these are 100% self-independent. One of these activities was to create a mask, this week she made a butterfly mask.
(These kind of activities give me some time to change diapers, check on the laundry or just breastfeed baby)

I put in the tray : small pieces of felt, feathers, glitter, buttons, flower felt stickers and she also use dot and dot paint, markers , pipe cleaners and purple foam that she cut from a butterfly pattern.

Then she used her imagination and put this mask together.

C uso su imaginacion y creo su mascara.

Then we played and flew around the house.
I wonder what will she create next week?

Easy Beaded Fairy Crown

Corona de Hadas con Cuentas y Cintas

This is a very simple crown to make, you will need: wire, beads and ribbons.

Let your little fairy insert the beads on the wire (do you remember the flower crown? from two years ago..yes! She still plays with it : )

And tie the ribbons to the wire (C needed help with this part)

To close both ends of the crown I used self-adhesive satin ribbon (I bought this set over a year ago and love it..pretty handy).

Now that you are done, let your little fairy dream, imagine and play with her new crown!!

Hope you all are enjoying this time of the year : )

Magic Things Jar

Tarrito de Magia

I was thinking on some ideas to keep C (4 years old) busy while I am  making dinner or just helping baby M , after seen this post I knew I needed to give it a try. This is very easy to put together. You just need an empty container (plastic, glass or even a bag) and type or hand write some activities you will like your child to do on her own.

I made my own list of fun things that C can do all by herself to create imagination and independence. I used purple ink for Spanish and pink ink for English. If you will like to download my list of activities go here.

So far C likes to get a paper from our " magic jar" and enjoys making the activities from the jar, she spent like 2 hours last night playing with it.
I think it will be a good idea if I change the activities every month or so, just to create more fun and expectations.

Henna Belly

Henna en la Pansita

A talented friend of mine offered to do some henna on my belly days ago, She always likes to share her wonderful designs on me ; ) But this time I was very impressed, isn't it lovely?
Henna is is a flowering plant used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather and wool. The name is also used for dye preparations derived from the plant, and for the art of temporary tattooing based on those dyes.It usually stays in your skin for about 5-7 days.

And of course little C (4.5 years old) wanted to give it a try, she choosed to have a flower..so sweet.

Walk for the Cure!

Caminando por la Cura!

Couple of weeks ago daddy, C and me walked 1 mile for Alaska Run for Women, this race has become a tradition on our family.
I usually run the 5 miles race but this year being 9 months pregnant we participated on the 1 mile walk.
Clicl here to go to my last year race.

Love our picture together!

Me encanta esta foto!

Do you know that : The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36. Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Preparing Onesies for Baby

Preparando la Ropa del Bebe

This is a very simple and fun  activity where all the family can participate, I bought some crayola fabric markers at Target for $4. and gave them a try. They are very easy to use,  after drawing you can iron the shirts or put them in the dryer for few minutes. That's all!!
I am just trying to give C the chance to be 100% involve on baby's arrival.

Estan listas.

Daddy, C and me decorated some onesises for baby (one week left : ) before he borns..so exciting!

I love how she made a rainbow sidewalk for baby when he comes home.

Montessori Baby Mobile TUTORIAL

Montessori Movil para Bebe TUTORIAL

There is one week left for baby's due day so I am trying to put everything together. I made this mobile days ago. C likes it, hope baby will like it too : )

You will need:
- White and Black fabric (I used 4 different kinds but it is your choice)
-scissors
-a butterfly pattern ( depends the size you want it , I used a small one)
- an embroidery hoop
-white or black (I used white) yarn
-thread and needle
- white or black  felted beads or any kind of beads (here for my tutorial on how to make felted beads)
-sewing machine

- Lana blanca o negra (yo use blanca)
- hilo blanco y aguja

First we start cutting out the butterflies from our fabric ,using our pattern, I cut 14 total (about 4 of each kind of fabric).

We lay them down

Las tenemos listas

Now we put one butterfly on top of the other butterfly facing up

Ahora las apareamos, una encima de otra

Now we  use our sewing machine to stitch both butterflies together by the middle, making a straight  line.

Like this, repeat the same process with all the butterflies

Now we are going to cover  the hoop with yarn all around

Ahora, usamos lana para enrollar el aro
All the way like this

Todo alrededor

Now we are going to use the butterflies and the beads (I used 10 felted beads..but you can use as many as you like)

Use the thread (I used about 20 (50 cm) inches long) and start threading by the middle of the butterfly and the beads leaving space in between one at the time.

When you are done threading you can tie them to the hoop, repeat the process four times (this way you will have 4 stripes of thread hanging up from the hoop). I used about two butterflies and 2 to 3 beads for each stripe of thread.

Now you have made a wonderful mobile for your baby..how wonderful!

Now hang it up and admire it ( they recommend to hang up 8-10 inches above the infant's head. These early black and white mobiles help infants develop visual discrimination, tracking, and focus).!! C who is 4 years old start playing with it right away

The black and white mobile is develop mentally appropriate and provides visual stimulation.

A kind Letter for SISTER!

Una Carinosa Carta para la Hermana!

C can't stop kissing and hugging my belly..she is counting(we all are) the days for brother to be born. I thought it will be a nice idea if "baby brother" sends a letter once a week to his sister " C".

I used watercolor paint to decorate the paper (watercolor paper) and I wrote a very simple letter saying that baby loves when sister hugs Mommy's belly and talks to him, and also how much baby loves sister already!

I also painted the envelope and glued am old stamps (I have a big collection of them that we bought at the fair last year). C enjoys checking our mail box and this time she was so excited to get something from baby.

Once she finished reading the letter, she said " I love my baby brother too".
We have two more weeks left so C will get two other letters to keep her posted about how baby is doing and tracking the days until they finally meet.
I also specify in the letters that mommy writes the letters in request of baby brother. so she doesn't get confused, she knows babies can't write : )

Headband Felted Flower TUTORIAL

Banda de Cabeza hecha de Fibra de Lana TUTORIAL

Remember my last post about our visit to the farm, well we kept some of the wool that C sheared from the sheep. We dyed pink and brought it home. I asked C what could we do with the wool and she say she wanted a headband.

You will need:

Wool roving (2 colors)
Felting needle
A flower shape cookie cutter (I don't have one so I used a snowflake shape that found at my kitchen.it worked great).
A foam mat
A simple headband
and hot glue

Necesitaras:

Goma caliente

Put the wool inside the cookie cutter

Start using your needle to poke on the wool

Let your child help but please tell her to be careful and not put her fingers on the way of the needle

After you think the wool is getting on shape, flip it over and keep poking then take the wool out from the cutter

Ok Now we are going to work on the button of the flower, get the other color of wool out (we choose purple that I already have) and gently pull a small piece of it

Roll it to make a small ball

Enrolla la fibra formando una bola

Put in the the center of our flower and start poking it with the needle

Now your flower is ready for the next step

Get the headband, glue gun and the flower ready

Necesitaremos la banda, la flor y la silicona caliente

Put glue into the back of the flower  and glued to the headband

Now you have a unique beautiful wool flower headband and a happy girl... doesn't get better than that!

Love you kid!

Te amo mi chikita!
